Ruth Ozeki, born Ruth Diana Lounsbury in 1956, is an American novelist, filmmaker and Zen Buddhist priest who teaches creative writing at Smith College. Her novels, including My Year of Meats (1998), All Over Creation (2003) and The Book of Form and Emptiness (2021), pair personal stories with questions about science, technology, the environment and war. A Tale for the Time Being (2013) won the LA Times Book Prize and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, and her novels have been translated into more than thirty languages.
