Salman Rushdie

Salman Rushdie is an Indian-born British and American novelist whose work often blends magical realism with historical fiction, much of it set on the Indian subcontinent. He is best known for Midnight's Children, which won the Booker Prize in 1981, and for The Satanic Verses, the 1988 novel that led to death threats and a fatwa against him. Other books include Shame, Haroun and the Sea of Stories, and Victory City, and his memoir Joseph Anton recounts the years following that controversy. He has lived in the United States since 2000.
