Samuel Beckett was an Irish playwright, novelist, and poet who wrote in both English and French. He is best known for the tragicomedy Waiting for Godot (1953), and he received the 1969 Nobel Prize in Literature for his writing. He also wrote the fiction Molloy and The End, and he lived in Paris for most of his adult life. He died in 1989.
