Scott Smith is an American author and screenwriter best known for two novels, A Simple Plan (1993) and The Ruins (2006). A Simple Plan is a thriller, and The Ruins is a horror novel set among ancient Mayan ruins in Mexico. Both were adapted into films based on his own screenplays, and his screenplay for A Simple Plan earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also wrote the screenplays for Siberia and The Burnt Orange Heresy.
