Seicho Matsumoto

Seichō Matsumoto was a Japanese writer credited with popularizing detective fiction in Japan. He published more than 450 works over his career, and his mystery novels, including Points and Lines and Inspector Imanishi Investigates, built his reputation internationally. His stories looked past the crime to the society around it, and Suspicion is a psychological thriller in that vein. In the 1960s he was Japan's highest-earning author, and films were made from eight of his novels, including Castle of Sand.
