Sherman Alexie is a Spokane novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter and filmmaker who grew up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. He is best known for The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, a semi-autobiographical young adult novel that won the 2007 National Book Award for Young People's Literature. His other books include Reservation Blues, Flight, and The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, a story collection adapted as the film Smoke Signals. He lives in Seattle.
