Sigurd Hoel was a Norwegian author and publishing consultant, born in Nordre Odalen Municipality, who debuted with the short story collection Veien vi gaar in 1922. His breakthrough, Sinners in Summertime (1927), was filmed in 1932 and again in 2002, and his largely autobiographical novels turn on childhood, guilt and sexual freedom. During the Second World War he served in the Norwegian resistance, and his novel Meeting at the Milestone draws on that underground struggle.
