Tan Twan Eng

Tan Twan Eng is a Malaysian novelist who writes in English and was born in Penang in 1972. His first novel, The Gift of Rain, appeared in 2007, but he is best known for The Garden of Evening Mists, a work of historical fiction that won the Man Asian Literary Prize and the Walter Scott Prize and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. Tan's later novel House of Doors is a literary novel set in colonial Penang that draws on real historical figures.
