Theodore Dreiser (1871–1945) was an American novelist and journalist of the naturalist school. He wrote about characters who pursue their goals without a firm moral code, and his best-known novels are Sister Carrie (1900) and An American Tragedy (1925). The latter follows Clyde Griffiths, a young man whose hunger for money and status leads him toward ruin. Dreiser also wrote the Trilogy of Desire, whose volumes include The Financier, The Titan and The Stoic.
