Tim O'Brien

Tim O'Brien is an American author who served as a soldier in the Vietnam War, and much of his writing returns to wartime Vietnam and the postwar lives of its veterans. He is best known for The Things They Carried (1990), a set of linked stories drawn partly from his own experience, which was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. His earlier war novel Going After Cacciato (1978) won the National Book Award. He has also taught creative writing at the MFA program of Texas State University–San Marcos.
