Tom McCarthy is an English writer and artist, born in 1969, who later gained Swedish citizenship after Brexit. He made his name with the novel Remainder in 2005, about a man rebuilding fragments of his past, and followed it with Satin Island. McCarthy has also written Tintin and the Secret of Literature, a critical study of Tintin, and the essay collection Typewriters, Bombs, and Jellyfish; his most recent novel is The Making of Incarnation, published in 2021.
