Tommy Orange is an American novelist from Oakland, California, born and raised in the Dimond District, where he still lives. His debut, There There (2018), follows Native characters in Oakland as they converge on the Big Oakland Powwow, and it was a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and received the 2019 American Book Award. Wandering Stars continues the series. He earned a fine arts master's from the Institute of American Indian Arts and received a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship in October 2025.
