Vernor Vinge

Vernor Vinge was an American science fiction author and retired professor of mathematics and computer science at San Diego State University, lived from 1944 to 2024. He is best known for the Zones of Thought series, beginning with A Fire upon the Deep, and for A Deepness in the Sky, as well as the climate-fiction novel Rainbows End. Vinge won Hugo Awards for those three novels and was among the first to popularize the idea of the technological singularity.
