Virginia Woolf was an English writer and one of the most influential modernist authors of the twentieth century, known for pioneering stream of consciousness narration. Her best-known books included the novels Mrs Dalloway, To the Lighthouse and Orlando, along with the feminist essay A Room of One's Own. Born in London in 1882, she was a founding member of the Bloomsbury Group and founded the Hogarth Press with her husband Leonard, which published much of her work, and she died in 1941.
