Wallace Thurman was an American novelist and screenwriter of the Harlem Renaissance, who also wrote essays, worked as an editor, and published short-lived newspapers and literary journals. He is best known for his first novel, The Blacker the Berry (1929), which examines how lighter skin was prized within the Black community. He also wrote Infants of the Spring, a satirical novel about artists and social climbers in 1920s Harlem. He died in 1934.
