Willa Cather was an American writer who wrote novels of life on the Great Plains, and she is best known for O Pioneers!, My Ántonia, and The Song of the Lark. Having grown up in Nebraska, she wrote about the settlers who moved west, many of them European immigrants, and about the land as a presence in their lives. She won the Pulitzer Prize in 1923 for One of Ours, a novel set during World War I, and she made New York City her main home for most of her life. She died in 1947.
