William Faulkner wrote novels and short stories set in Yoknapatawpha County, a fictional stand-in for Lafayette County, Mississippi, where he spent most of his life. He published The Sound and the Fury in 1929 and As I Lay Dying the year after, and later wrote Light in August and Absalom, Absalom!. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949, and two of his later works, A Fable and The Reivers, won Pulitzer Prizes for Fiction.
