William Gibson is an American and Canadian writer of speculative fiction and essays, widely credited with pioneering cyberpunk, a label he has repeatedly distanced himself from. His debut novel Neuromancer (1984) popularized the word cyberspace and opened the Sprawl trilogy, continued in Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive. He later co-wrote The Difference Engine with Bruce Sterling, wrote the Bridge trilogy, and turned to contemporary settings with Pattern Recognition, Spook Country and Zero History before returning to technology-driven science fiction in The Peripheral and Agency.
