Yoko Tawada is a Japanese writer living in Berlin who writes in both Japanese and German. Her novel Scattered All over the Earth imagines a distant future in which Japan has disappeared, and a displaced former citizen teaches immigrant children in Denmark. Her short story collections include Facing the Bridge and Where Europe Begins. Tawada has won the Akutagawa Prize and a National Book Award, and has been a writer-in-residence at MIT and Stanford.
