Self-Made Boys: A Great Gatsby Remix

Description

In 1922 New York, Nicolás Caraveo arrives with a careful plan: build a future, protect his family, and claim a life that finally fits. When he rents near the glittering world of West Egg, he finds himself drawn into the orbit of Jay Gatsby—whose extravagant parties mask a deeper longing, and whose own trans identity reshapes what “reinvention” can mean. As Nicolás navigates shifting loyalties, passing, and the seductive promise of the American Dream, his growing connection to Jay turns from curiosity into something tender, complicated, and profoundly hopeful. Anna-Marie McLemore’s lyrical, emotionally precise YA remix reimagines the classic romance at its core—centering trans love, belonging, and the cost of spectacle—while delivering the ache and wonder of a story that refuses to stay in the past.
