Description
A Place Called No Homeland is a lyrical poetry collection that charts the emotional and spiritual geography of diaspora, violence, abuse, and exile. Drawing on autobiographical fragments and the cadence of oral storytelling, the poems move through fairytale motifs and intimate memory to illuminate the lives of trans women of color navigating displacement and survival. With vivid imagery and a compassionate, searching voice, the collection explores belonging and selfhood in the aftermath of harm—where home can be both lost and reimagined. Kai Cheng Thom’s distinctive blend of personal testimony, mythic resonance, and musical language makes this a powerful work of witness, resilience, and transformation.

“is it sacrifice that makes a mother is it suffering that makes a woman is it sacrifice / suffering / sacrifice / suffering?”<br/>maybe it’s both. maybe it’s neither. probably it’s a hurricane of hope, dreams, sacrifice, suffering, violence, peace, rebellion, tenderness, rage. in the end its all the same; a performance but one we each learned or lost differently. this collection hit somewhere so strange inside for me as it’s kai cheng thom’s endless pursuit of womanhood while i seek to erase my own.
