The Peculiar Incident on Shady Street
Description
Twelve-year-old Tessa Woodward has barely settled into her new home when the lights begin to flicker, the air turns unnaturally cold, and strange signs suggest something—or someone—is trying to reach her. Determined not to be frightened into silence, Tessa gathers a small circle of friends and sets out to investigate the unsettling occurrences on Shady Street, following clues that blur the line between haunting and hidden history. As the mystery deepens, the story explores fear, friendship, and the courage it takes to ask questions when the answers feel out of reach. With a fast, accessible narrative voice and a child-centered sense of wonder, this tale delivers a suspenseful, supernatural mystery that keeps readers guessing until the final reveal.

Tessa is introduced to the reader on a move from Florida to Chicago in the opening pages. As I was reading I thought how awesome this book would be to read aloud to a class at the beginning of October. The fall/spooky setting on Shady Street and within the walls of Tessa's new house had me turning page after page.

The spookiness factor is not too high for younger readers, but there is a enough to keep those who are reading to get some goosebumps on the neck and arms!

Can't wait to recommend to colleagues next fall!
