Where the Wild Ladies Are
by Aoko Matsuda
Description
This inventive collection of interconnected stories reimagines figures from Japanese folklore as unforgettable women navigating the pressures, absurdities, and injustices of contemporary life. Ghosts, spirits, and mythical beings encounter office workers, mothers, neighbors, and outsiders, creating a vivid world where the supernatural exposes truths about gender, power, loneliness, and belonging. With sharp wit, playful imagination, and a quietly subversive style, the book transforms familiar tales into bold feminist fables that are both strange and deeply human.
