Description
When Claire, a privileged teenager from Shanghai, is sent to California to attend high school, she becomes a “parachute” student living with Dani, a local girl whose family is struggling to make ends meet. Thrown together as roommates, the two navigate culture shock, class divisions, academic pressure, and the complicated expectations placed on young women. As their lives become increasingly intertwined, they must confront questions of privilege, consent, identity, and whose stories are heard. Timely and unflinching, this compelling contemporary novel explores friendship and power in a world where belonging is never guaranteed.
