Description

In a small North Carolina town in the 1960s, fifteen-year-old Ivy Hart shoulders immense responsibility, caring for her ailing grandmother, mentally ill sister, and young nephew on their tobacco farm. Her life takes a turn when a new social worker, Jane Forrester, arrives and becomes deeply involved with the Hart family, uncovering dark secrets hidden within their community. As Jane navigates her own personal life and professional ethics, she finds herself confronting the harsh realities of state-mandated sterilizations and racial tensions. Both women are drawn into a complex web of tragedy and difficult choices, forcing them to question what is right when societal pressures dictate otherwise.
