Description
In a future where the boundaries between life, labor, and survival are tightly controlled, a lone worker on a remote station discovers that the system governing her world is built on secrets older than the technology around her. As she uncovers the truth behind her assignment and the people who seem to orbit her life, she must decide whether to comply, escape, or ignite a rebellion that could upend everything she’s been taught to fear. Blending speculative tension with intimate character stakes, this story explores power, autonomy, and the cost of obedience—especially when the “underworld” is not myth, but infrastructure. With Stina Leicht’s sharp, atmospheric storytelling and emotionally grounded voice, the novel delivers a propulsive, thought-provoking journey through identity, memory, and resistance.

Im making this as having spoilers even, tho I dont really think this will count.

I wasn't prepared for major character death. I typically prefer to avoid it when given the chance, or to at least know what im getting myself into from the start.

Overall, I enjoyed it. The second half of the book is honestly much more interesting than the first. It was slow to get going, and then all of a sudden, everything was happening.

The ending was lackluster? It left me with questions and threw in a surprise your a parent now angle that was very out of the blue.

It felt like things needed to be fleshed out a little bit more or expanded on. If I didn't know better I'd say this felt like a new author's work, but I also haven't read any of her other work to compare so who knows, maybe this is just what her writing is like
