Description
In rural Japan shortly after World War II, a quiet life is upended by a love that refuses to stay within ordinary bounds. Centered on a volatile triangle involving Kōji and two men drawn into his orbit, the novel unfolds as desire curdles into obsession and, ultimately, revenge. With Mishima’s signature intensity and lyrical precision, the story explores masculinity, power, and the dangerous ways affection can become possession. As loyalties shift and old wounds surface, the “frolic” promised by the title becomes a haunting dance at the edge of control—where passion demands payment.
