Description
Reparations Now! is a powerful collection of formal and non-traditional poems that insists on what is owed to the Black descendants of enslaved people in the United States. Through vivid, wide-ranging scenes—from historical terror like the lynching of Mary Turner to the pressures of state-sanctioned violence, pandemic-era crisis, and today’s white silence and white nationalism—Ashley M. Jones links past harm to present-day heartbreak without losing sight of survival and joy. The poems move through personal and cultural reckonings, including intimate betrayals and the everyday sanctuaries of family, music, and the labor of the land. With lyrical intensity and a clear moral urgency, Jones holds readers accountable while honoring Black life, art, and the possibility of repair.

jones's poems are unashamedly honest, an open wound of grief and healing that demands the reader not look away. incredible collection ruminating, whispering, and screaming all at once on race, god, love, and life. it's cohesive, well paced, and peppered with unique poem formats, none of which felt gimmicky for the sake of having done something new—it all felt purposeful. just an extremely poignant and enjoyable read.
