Description
In this vivid retelling of twenty-four stories from Ovid’s *Metamorphoses*, ancient gods, mortals, lovers, monsters, and heroes are swept into worlds transformed by passion, violence, and fate. From devastating acts of desire to tales of loss, revenge, and renewal, these poems explore metamorphosis as both a supernatural force and a profound human experience. Written in powerful, muscular language, the collection brings classical myth into immediate emotional focus while preserving its strangeness, grandeur, and enduring relevance. This acclaimed late work offers a dramatic and accessible encounter with Ovid’s imagination through the distinctive poetic vision of its translator.
