Description
When Betty Dean moves to Guernsey in the 1980s, she discovers a long-buried mystery surrounding her grandmother, Arlette, and a woman named Clara. Her search leads back to the vibrant streets of 1920s London, where Arlette lived a bohemian life shaped by love, ambition, and heartbreak before returning to the island under tragic circumstances. As the stories of two generations unfold, Betty begins to uncover the secrets that have defined her family—and to understand her own hopes and place in the world. Moving between past and present, this richly atmospheric novel explores female independence, resilience, loss, and the enduring consequences of unspoken truths.
