Description
When psychologist Kris Kelvin arrives at the remote space station orbiting Solaris, he expects to conduct a routine scientific study of the planet's vast, sentient ocean. Instead, he encounters a shocking manifestation: a living, breathing replica of his beloved wife, who died years ago, now mysteriously embodied before him. As Kelvin grapples with this impossible reunion, he discovers that other crew members are similarly haunted by their own repressed memories made flesh—a phenomenon that suggests the Solaris ocean may be a vast intelligence deliberately probing the depths of human consciousness. Lem's masterwork transforms the science fiction genre into a profound meditation on love, loss, memory, and the limits of human understanding, questioning whether we can ever truly comprehend the universe without first confronting the mysteries within our own hearts. A haunting exploration of what it means to be human, Solaris remains one of the most influential and philosophically rich works of speculative fiction ever written.

there were moments where i really loved this. but they were inhumanely euthanized by... the rest of the book. the parts that were so iron lung and theological rocked. harey/hari/rheya growing a sense of self was one of the best and yet shortest parts of the book. i did not like how in sort of the middle of a narrative we got info-dumped century old scientific study about the planet and ocean. i didn't appreciate how it was presented or written; it could have been more dynamic. ultimately it was interesting but i felt it wasn't well done.
