Description
Alfonso Jones is a kid with big dreams: he’s determined to take center stage in his school’s hip-hop version of Hamlet and finally tell his best friend, Danetta, what’s in his heart. But when he’s out buying his first suit, a terrifying misunderstanding turns his day upside down—an off-duty police officer mistakes a hanger for a gun and shoots Alfonso. As Alfonso fights to make sense of what happened, the story explores how identity, art, and community collide with fear, bias, and the search for justice. Written with Tony Medina’s accessible, emotionally grounded storytelling, this novel blends high-energy performance with a powerful, thought-provoking look at race, safety, and the resilience it takes to be heard.
