Description
In the heart of Amsterdam, a group of Yugoslavian refugees finds an unlikely sanctuary in the Department of Slavonic Languages, their lives interwoven with the stark realities of exile. Their teacher, Tanja Luciae, navigates the complexities of their displacement, while many students seek solace and survival in the clandestine world of a fetish-wear factory. As Tanja's relationship with her student Igor deepens, it ignites the simmering tensions of their past and present, exploring themes of identity, trauma, and the search for belonging in a fragmented world. This novel offers a poignant and unflinching look at the human condition, marked by savage compassion and a profound understanding of shared homelessness.
