Description
A duty-bound Reaper spends his days guiding souls to the afterlife—until he encounters Waiting, a peculiar, familiar spirit who seems to follow him wherever he goes. As their journey across the realm unfolds in search of lost souls, Reaper’s carefully maintained distance begins to fracture, especially as his spirit helper, Dog, grows increasingly drawn to Waiting. Blending action-adventure momentum with tender LGBTQ+ romance, the story explores identity, memory, and the bittersweet weight of unfinished lives. With January Sun’s vivid, manga-leaning storytelling and emotionally charged pacing, this complete graphic novel collection turns a supernatural assignment into a haunting question: what happens when the one meant to seal your fate becomes the key to understanding your past?

thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review. "the reaper and the waiting" is a beautiful little story about grief, misunderstandings, and second chances. it follows the story of waiting who has a deep secret he must keep and the reaper who has no memories of his mortal life. unable to confess or remember, they choose to enjoy the time they have now and build a little life out of what they have. but the secret between them looms as waiting insists that their previous lives were important and knowing who you were matters. the art style is incredibly unique and beautiful, with full color/full page panels throughout. it was very sweet and endearing. as a BL romance, it's closed door and clean. it however has period accurate violence and grief. very cute!
I received a free copy of the arc from NetGalley!

Let me start with the art style! 10/10 gorgeous, the colors, the compositions, the contrast! It's so beautiful and flowy and perfect for the story being told
And the story. Let me just yell about how much I love stories about grief for a hot second, because oh my god I was crying for about half of it. Grief and love and having to take that leap of faith on the hope that you arent wrong about what you are feeling. When you combine it with the art, just wow
I loved it, I need a physical copy of this book as soon as I can manage it
