Description
In Leïla Slimani's chilling novel, a seemingly idyllic Parisian household shatters when a devoted nanny commits an unthinkable act of violence against the children in her care. The narrative unfolds through alternating perspectives, delving into the complex relationship between the mother, Myriam, and the nanny, Louise, as well as the observations of those around them. This gripping psychological thriller explores themes of societal pressures, the precarious balance of domestic life, and the hidden darkness that can lie beneath the surface of ordinary existence. Slimani's sharp prose and unflinching gaze create a haunting portrait of desire, desperation, and the devastating consequences of unspoken needs.
