Description

From County Mayo to Canada, this blistering collection follows outcasts, misfits, and malcontents as their lives collide with the strange, the violent, and the quietly unbearable. Across eight character-driven stories, a wry, exacting eye turns everyday rituals—pub nights, funerals, police work, and the writing life—into stages for moral reckoning, grief, and dark comedy. Themes of displacement and longing pulse beneath the surface, as characters confront what they’ve lost, what they can’t return to, and how far despair can reach. With the lyrical toughness that made his debut a critical sensation, Colin Barrett delivers sharply drawn portraits and inventive, darkly funny storytelling that feels both intimate and unsettling.

i love a good story about nothing where it’s all just vibes. but this anthology was story after story about nothing and lacking in vibes. each one drowned in an overly expansive cast of characters as the narrative meanders down a lane to nowhere all while saying nothing.
