Description

In the aftermath of anti-Semitic attacks and mounting financial troubles, Ariel returns to her estranged mother’s struggling animal sanctuary in rural Kansas, the home she left behind six years earlier. As she helps confront the sanctuary’s uncertain future, Ariel must reckon with painful family history, the consequences of her own past, and the unexpected reappearance of her first love. Meanwhile, her fiancé’s anxious pursuit underscores the widening distance between the life Ariel has built and the one she may still long for. Tender, perceptive, and laced with humor, this novel explores belonging, forgiveness, identity, and the difficult work of choosing what—and whom—to call home.
