Description
In an era of constant distraction, Cal Newport's seminal work argues that the ability to perform deep work—professionally valuable activities performed in a state of distraction-free concentration—is becoming increasingly rare and valuable. This book explores why deep work is crucial for developing skills, creating new value, and achieving meaningful professional success in our economy. Newport provides a compelling case for prioritizing focused, cognitively demanding tasks and offers practical strategies and routines to cultivate this essential skill, helping readers to minimize distractions and maximize their productive potential.

The book offers a lot of techniques and practices of deep work using case studies of authors, professors, and entrepreneurs. While some concepts are interesting, they are not applicable to the average knowledge worker, no matter how much Cal may think so. The book is also drawn out and repetitive. It could have been an email, which is funny since half the book was email = bad.
