Description
Seventh-grader Zoey navigates the complexities of family responsibility and social invisibility, wishing for the eight arms and camouflage of an octopus to manage her life. While her mother works and her mother's boyfriend provides a semblance of stability, Zoey cares for her younger siblings, all while trying to remain unnoticed at school. Forced into the debate club by a teacher, Zoey begins to find her voice, questioning her mother's relationship, her friend's struggles, and her own place in a town that looks down on her. This powerful debut delves into themes of class, family, and the courage it takes to speak out, even when the stakes are incredibly high.
