Description
In Dionne Brand's evocative novel, two women, Elizete and Verlia, find a fleeting sanctuary in each other amidst the turmoil of a Caribbean island grappling with political upheaval. Their intense connection, born from shared experiences of abandonment and resilience, blossoms into a profound love story. Yet, their time together is tragically brief, marked by separation and the lingering echoes of their pasts. Brand masterfully explores themes of diaspora, identity, and the complexities of love and loss, challenging conventional narrative structures to illuminate the hidden lives and desires of women.
