Description

In a remote corner of the English countryside, a family’s quiet life is upended by a long-buried inheritance of violence, superstition, and the stubborn pull of the past. As strange occurrences gather around a newly occupied home, the story moves between generations to reveal how secrets can root themselves in land, memory, and blood. With lyrical dread and unsettling momentum, this novel explores themes of grief, moral inheritance, and the ways communities decide what to believe when fear becomes tradition. Andrew Michael Hurley’s distinctive, atmospheric style blends folklore and psychological intensity, crafting a haunting, propulsive tale that lingers long after the final page.

sort of enraging just how fucking stupid everyone was even when they weren’t supernaturally ill; juliette at the doctors, harrie in the house, richard before the doctor’s appointment. and the end was a disappointing limp out of what had been incredible plot and tension building for half the book.
