Description
Namwali Serpell's ambitious multigenerational epic, *The Old Drift*, offers a sweeping panorama of Zambian history through the lens of one interconnected family. Told from the unique perspective of a mosquito chorus, the narrative drifts through five generations and over 150 years, exploring the enduring impact of colonialism and the cyclical nature of human error. From the mist-shrouded lands near Victoria Falls to the formation of a nation, this novel delves into themes of blood relations, generative mistakes, and the long, often entangled, view of history. Serpell masterfully weaves together personal destinies with grand historical forces, creating a rich tapestry of life, love, and consequence.
