Description

After crossing the Atlantic with hope in her heart, Ellis arrives at James Fort to begin a new life as an indentured servant—believing work, stability, and love will finally secure her future. But as the seasons shift, she witnesses the brutal realities of America’s colonial world, where Indigenous people are met with cruelty and where Henry Collins’s rage turns domestic life into something far darker. Drawn into a tightening web of fear, Ellis must confront the truth about what survival really costs when winter brings hunger and desperation strips away every illusion. Blending visceral tension with a clear-eyed reckoning of settler mythology, this gripping survival tale explores power, complicity, and resilience in the face of moral collapse.

this was so fucking repetitive, unbearably so. it’s 100 pages longer than it needed to be considering how often the same shit is being said over and over. also spelling a racial slur the antiquated way doesn’t make it any less of a racial slur and probably makes it stand out even worse than normal.
