Description

In a magical West African world where extraordinary gifts surface at coming of age, Somadina and her twin brother, Jayaike, are bound so tightly they feel like one person split in two. As their powers awaken, Somadina’s presence draws fear and hostility, and when Jayaike vanishes, the bond that once made them whole becomes the only map back to him. Forced to confront terrifying new abilities and the hidden rules of a world that punishes difference, she must travel beyond the safe edges of her life—into otherworldly places where the spirit world’s secrets are guarded. Blending mythic wonder with intimate stakes, this novel explores identity, family, and the past’s power to shape who we’re allowed to be, in Akwaeke Emezi’s signature, propulsive style that makes the supernatural feel urgently personal.

OOOOOHHH this was a delight. a girl who can’t help but be a sharp blade in a world where everyone around her is either desperate to get rid what they don’t understand or to become a handle to wield her as their own. ooohohohooo this was everything.
