Interior Chinatown

Description

In this groundbreaking novel, Charles Yu uses the unique format of a screenplay to explore the life of Willis Wu, an Asian American actor perpetually typecast in stereotypical roles. Willis dreams of graduating from Background Oriental Male to the coveted role of Kung Fu Guy on the fictional cop show *Black and White*, a quest that becomes a powerful metaphor for the Asian American experience. Through Willis's journey, the novel delves into themes of identity, representation, and the pervasive influence of Hollywood's rigid structures on life both on and off screen. *Interior Chinatown* is a poignant and incisive commentary on the dreams and struggles of those navigating the complexities of cultural identity in a world that often dictates their roles.
