Description
In this masterfully crafted novel, Hiroko Oyamada, author of The Hole and The Factory, delves into the complexities of fertility, masculinity, and modern marriage through three interconnected narratives. The story unfolds across different stages of life for a group of friends, beginning in the quiet hum of a pet store where discussions of dried shrimp and new relationships take center stage. Later, a couple seeking refuge in a mountain home confronts an uncanny solution to a persistent weasel problem, while a blizzard-bound dinner party descends into a night of surreal, aquarium-filled dreams. Oyamada's signature surreal sensibility brings to light the often-unseen facets of contemporary Japanese society, creating a uniquely unsettling and thought-provoking reading experience.
