Description
Detective Sergeant Bruce R. Robertson is a man consumed by his own depravity, navigating the murky underbelly of Edinburgh's police force while his personal life crumbles around him. As he pursues a brutal case, Robertson's obsessions and psychological unraveling blur the lines between justice and vengeance, revealing a character trapped in cycles of corruption and self-destruction. Irvine Welsh's unflinching prose strips away any pretense of morality, presenting a protagonist whose survival mechanisms have become indistinguishable from his pathology. This darkly compelling novel explores themes of institutional corruption, psychological deterioration, and the impossibility of redemption in a world where the games we play to survive ultimately define our ruin. A visceral and provocative examination of a man at the absolute bottom of his descent.

An absolutely vile story about the most repellent police office - Bruce "Robbo" Robertson - whom you shall eventually (and you'll have to suspend your disbelief here) find a sliver of sympathy for by the end of the this woefully perverse story.

Intelligent, repugnant, hilarious and shockingly queasy; one of my most favourite books. You'll have to read 'Filth' yourself to find out why Welsh is just so damn clever.
