Description

At seventy, Percy Darling has settled into a solitary life on his rural New England property, carefully preserving the routines and memories shaped by his wife’s death. When he agrees to lease his barn to an unconventional progressive preschool, the sudden influx of children, parents, and competing ideals disrupts his seclusion and draws him into a vibrant new community. As Percy confronts tensions within the neighborhood and the lingering consequences of his past choices, he begins to reconsider what it means to live fully, connect with others, and open oneself to change. With emotional insight and richly observed characters, the novel explores grief, aging, family, community, and the possibility of renewal.
