Description

In a small North Carolina coastal town in 1984, Sheriff Winston Barnes is called to investigate an abandoned airplane and a mysterious death—an unsettling case that quickly exposes long-buried tensions within the community. As Barnes pursues the truth, he must contend with racial divisions, political pressure, and the complicated legacy of the place he has devoted his life to protecting. With its atmospheric coastal setting and deeply drawn characters, the novel explores justice, family, memory, and the ways the past continues to shape the present.
