Description
In a near-future Lagos shaped by political violence and economic collapse, a young girl is swept into a dangerous struggle where survival depends on who controls the story of the city. As she navigates shifting loyalties and the brutal consequences of resistance, her choices force her to confront what it means to be “safe,” “free,” and truly seen. Blending speculative urgency with intimate character stakes, the novel explores themes of state power, inherited trauma, community solidarity, and the moral cost of rebellion. With Tochi Onyebuchi’s sharp, propulsive storytelling and emotionally resonant voice, this is a tense, thought-provoking ride through the fires of revolution—without ever losing sight of the human heart at its center.

so much of this book is beyond me, what i can understand. ella and kev being given a power to convey more pain, violence, destruction to the audience. the pain and sorrow is palpable, but i won’t pretend to have had a deeper understanding of it.
